
A recent incident of robbery in the United States seems to have brought up yet another wave of trouble for the Indian diaspora.
According to reports, two Indian nationals, Bhupinderjit Singh, 26, and Divya Kumari, 22, have been charged, among others, for robbing the home of a small business owner in Orange County, New York.

Edward Y. Kim, the Acting US Attorney, said, “Bhupinderjit Singh and his co-defendants allegedly planned and executed a violent robbery…
…The four children watched as their parents were zip-tied and held at gunpoint while four men ransacked their home looking for money and valuables.”

This news comes at a sensitive time for the Indian diaspora, as they are struggling to cope with increasing racism and the Trump Administration’s strict attitude towards them.
One Indian social media user said, “We go abroad to work hard and build respect, and these idiots do this? Pathetic!”

Another commented, “First, go to another country for a better life, then do this nonsense? Shameful!”
While incidents like this are bound to malign the image of Indians at such a sensitive time, it is always crucial to remember that the actions of a few individuals don’t and can’t represent their whole community.
