In April, Mahendra Patel was indicted by a Cobb County grand jury after 26-year-old Caroline Miller claimed he tried to snatch her child in an Acworth Walmart. He was arrested on April 3 and immediately sent to jail.

Life inside jail was harsh. A vegetarian, Mahendra Patel survived mostly on bread, peanut butter, and milk. He lost 17 pounds, missed vital medication, and faced constant threats. Some inmates mocked him, while others demanded money or issued violent threats.
