A US official has arrested an Indian national for trying to engage in sexual activity with a minor. The undercover agent posed as a 13-year-old girl online to gather incriminating evidence against an NRI man.
Kiran Patel, 24, pleaded guilty for trying to entice a minor to engage with him sexually, as per the US Attorney’s office in Florida. The Indian-origin man will now face a minimum imprisonment of 10 years which can be extended to a life sentence.

The Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) disclosed that one of their agents posed as a minor online and Patel was trying to have a sexually explicit chat with them in May. He was ultimately arrested while traveling to Florida.
The 24-year-old man’s actions are completely deplorable but it is reassuring to see the agencies taking actions against predators before they disrupt someone else’s life.

Women’s and children’s safety should be prioritized as these vulnerable groups are getting more targeted in society. There is no date for Patel’s final sentencing but a harsh punishment should be considered for sending a strong message.
