NRIs Won't Return

India is one of the countries with the highest emigration rate in the world. It is never a good sign as every year more Indians decide to leave their home country to settle abroad.

There are instances where people often miss their homes but still reside outside of India. A Reddit user delved deeper on this topic asking fellow Non-Resident Indians to explain what’s stopping them from returning to the home nation.

As an NRI Indian himself, the original poster explained his reasons for staying in the UK which included good infrastructure, cleanliness, better work-life balance, a judgement free society, and low crime rates. This led to other Indian-origin people citing their reasons and narrating personal anecdotes which more or less echoed the original post.

This is a harsh reality where the government and society have collectively failed to cultivate an environment where people come to study and settle. Instead, the upper class citizens are leaving the country the first chance they get due to the lower pay grade and lack of work opportunities.

A poignant remark that the Reddit user made was comparing the tax rates of the UK and India. Although the tax rates in the UK are high, they get tax returns, good public services, and infrastructure for it, giving them more incentive to stay abroad.

Despite all of the complaints, other users also mentioned their desire to return to India if the conditions suffice.
