Netflix’s bold take on science fiction, based on Cixin Liu’s popular novel “3 Body Problem”, was released on 21st March 2024. Since then it received mixed reviews. Majority of the audience is saying the series is very hard to keep up with and another group of people are saying that it is a fantastic depiction of futuristic science.
But, China thinks otherwise. The depiction of the time of cultural revolution in the very first episode of the series, spiked up anger in the minds and hearts of the whole nation. Where it received great appreciation in the west.
The portrayal of the very tumultuous situation of the past was not taken lightly. The picture of Mao Zedong’s China during the Cultural Revolution, while showcasing the scientist getting beaten up brutally because he supported Einstein’s theory of the Big Bang was a horrific picture for them to digest.
During the revolution China was in a very pathetic situation, which they didn’t like to be portrayed. They are claiming that taking a part from the middle of the novel and putting it in the very beginning without any backdrop was a wrong step. They are putting China in the wrong view.
The Chinese people are known for their protective nature towards their history and mythology that is why they always include their past and myths somehow in every novel or movie. Seeing their culture being painted like that globally emotionally attacked them.
