Nepo Kid’s Flop on ZEE5: Second Chance or Ignore?

Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan premieres on ZEE5

ZEE5 has announced that “Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan” will premiere on September 5. The film stars Vikrant Massey alongside Shanaya Kapoor, who makes her much-awaited debut. Shanaya is the daughter of Sanjay Kapoor and Maheep Kapoor, and her debut has been closely watched.

Directed by Santosh Singh, “Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan” is produced by Mansi Bagla, Varun Bagla and Vipin Agnihotri. It is presented by Zee Studios in collaboration with Mini Films, adding weight to the film’s production. Despite this, its theatrical release had a lukewarm response.

Released on July 11 in theatres, the movie received mixed reviews and struggled to connect with audiences. Inspired by Ruskin Bond’s short story “The Eyes Have It,” the film tells an emotional love story of a blind musician played by Vikrant Massey and a young theatre artist played by Shanaya Kapoor.

The trailer and songs had created anticipation before release. However, Shanaya’s performance did not impress many viewers. While her debut generated attention, the film’s impact fell short of expectations, leaving many to question her entry into Bollywood.

With its OTT release on ZEE5, the film may get a second chance. Digital platforms often revive films that underperform in theatres. For instance, “Kesari Chapter 2” did poorly at the box office but gained wide popularity when it streamed on JioHotstar.

Now the real question is whether audiences will give “Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan” more love on OTT than they did in cinemas. Its digital run could define Shanaya Kapoor’s start in the industry and decide if this debut deserves a fresh audience response.
