
Recently, there has been a report that MX Player, an ad-supported streaming service in India, will soon be acquired by Amazon, although, selectively. The online sales company began negotiations with MX Player in early 2023 though the discussion was briefly halted in July 2023. It will likely help Amazon improve its coverage and market share of the streaming services in the country.
Currently, MX Player has been dominating the Indian Plex with an impressive collection of Indian language movies & Korean dramas. Amazon using assets to stream its services that will likely benefit its own streaming services ten fold such as Prime Video and miniTV.

This is in line with the Amazon plans to expand business in India, especially in entertainment and advertising services. The size of the deal is around hundred million dollars and this is considered low compared with the previous valuation of MX Player which was worth half a billion.
The synergies that the acquisition brings to Amazon and MX Player will enable the former to gain a bigger competitive edge in the Indian streaming market while the latter with content and expertise helps build Amazon’s portfolio.
