Can “Kalki 2898 AD” Redeem the Baahubali Star?

Kalki 2898 AD

Prabhas has been an interesting case study for cinema lovers. A handsome Telugu actor known for his commercial hits, he became a nationwide rage after S.S. Rajamouli’s “Baahubali”. The guy became such a huge figure for cinema lovers that people started to worship him as a star who could never go wrong. But ironically, nothing has gone right since then.

Terrible cases like “Saaho” and “Radhe Shyam” have shown that an actor can get trapped by his own cinematic identity. The case with “Adipurush” was even worse, which made him a joke. Better things were expected from a movie like “Salaar”, but it wasn’t enough. That is why, when the guy is coming up with something really interesting, people are giving a lukewarm response to it, especially in North India. There has been little hype around “Kalki 2898 AD”, which has less than a month to release worldwide.

The weird marketing strategy of the movie also raises questions about how they are going to create buzz all over India when we haven’t seen a proper teaser yet.

The promotional material available so far is not enough. The animated prelude of Bujji and Bhairava can excite young audiences to an extent, but to appeal to the masses, more conversation needs to be generated around the movie. It is one of the most ambitious projects to date. Though we know that such massive projects often fail, especially when Prabhas is involved, maybe we should trust him again!
