Imtiaz Ali’s upcoming movie “Chamkila” is garnering high promotions everywhere, and why not? It’s one of the biggest OTT releases of 2024, a Netflix original in the making since 2022, and a very important film that might act as a milestone for Indian cinema in many ways.
“Chamkila” marks Imtiaz Ali’s comeback after four long years. The man behind movies like “Rockstar,” “Tamasha,” “Jab We Met,” and “Highway” has a crazy fanbase due to his unique storytelling abilities. This movie has seemed promising from the beginning, with the trio of AR Rahman, Irshad Kamil, and Imtiaz Ali reuniting after “Rockstar” and “Tamasha.”
While we’ve loved Diljit as a Punjabi superstar and musician, this movie offers him a rare opportunity to showcase his acting talent, similar to what he did in “Udta Punjab” and “Soorma.”
Initially, there was disappointment with Parineeti Chopra being cast as the female lead, but she actually resembles Amarjot Kaur a lot. However, mere resemblance to the original woman never satisfies the audience who would want a convincing performance.
Apart from these aspects, it’s a powerful story that needs to be told and heard by everyone. Amarsingh Chamkila was no less than the Elvis Presley of India, and the unfortunate demise of such a sensation is a story that only Imtiaz Ali can pull off.
