French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte defeated the Disney Princess; at least, that’s what the Monday headlines read as Scott’s Napoleon continues the 2023 trend of Box Office unpredictability.
Throughout the years, the box office during Thanksgiving has been fruitful as more and more people opt for theaters. This year was no exception, as ongoing films observed a good distribution of viewers, indicating overall growth.
Amidst all the numbers and stars, “Wish” was supposed to overtake the box office and Napoleon to observe a mediocre run. But, again, this year’s box office has been unpredictable, as both films prove that fact.
“Wish” was projecting a whopping $45M-$55M but went nowhere near that. “Wish” stopped its Thanksgiving run at $31.7M, continuing Disney’s latest run of disappointment.
On the other hand, Napoleon became another success for R-rated films; the march goes on for adult-centric films. It crossed the mark of $32.5M, bringing a breath of fresh air for Sony and Apple TV.
Being R-rated and competing with films such as “Wish” and “Hunger Games,” Napoleon will obviously not have a very successful long run, but sometimes the shorter victories make a good and strong statement.
