India has around 621 million video content consumers and around 70 percent of these rely on free subscriptions which are mainly driven by advertisements. Hotstar has explained in the handbook how advertising through OTT could be the best option considering returns.
One reason behind it is the hyper specific targeting of these ads based on the audience’s viewing history. This is the kind of algorithm that social media sites like Instagram use in order to get the highest return from an advertisement.
The book is based on over 200 campaigns tested on Disney+ Hotstar. Another major reason behind choosing OTT for advertisement is that 90 percent of the new televisions purchased in India are smart TVs. They generally rely on OTTs for the content.
