This November is going to witness a much grander version of one of the biggest film festivals of India as the 54th International Film Festival of India(IFFI) is scheduled to begin from the 20th November. The film festival is going to take place in Goa and has received submissions from all around the world. This year’s edition of the festival will not be limited to the conventional films and the ministry has decided to recognise all the content that is released on OTT as well.
This year’s edition will have a special category of awards just for the OTT releases. The ministry said that it’ll be celebrating the outstanding content creators on OTT platforms. The festival has received 32 entries from 15 different OTT platforms that’ll be competing in the section. The winner will get a prize of ₹10 lakh and certificate. The OTT awards are also going to diversify the festival as it will allow submissions from a larger number of languages.
The OTT boom started in India during the COVID lockdowns as more and more people started streaming movies and shows on their personal screens as the only mode of entertainment. The potential of OTT is still highly untapped and creators are coming up with innovative ways to offer something new to the viewers through this platform.
This year’s IFFI will have over 270 screenings. A total of 15 films including 12 international films are going to compete for the Best Film Award.
