The wave of inclusion is transforming the entertainment world, and some causes are indeed worth mentioning. In one such instance, “Jawan” may be re-released on OTT platforms with new features.
The Delhi High Court has instructed the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to upload an accessible version of Shah Rukh Khan’s film “Jawan” on OTT platforms.
Justice Prathiba M Singh has also urged consultation with the producers of “Jawan” and the unreleased “Hi Papa” to ensure the inclusion of accessibility features in their OTT releases.
The Delhi High Court addressed a plea advocating for accessibility features, including audio description, closed captioning, and subtitles in the film “Jawan” for visually and hearing-impaired individuals.
The petitioner, Akshat Baldwa, sought these features in both theaters and OTT platforms for “Jawan” and the unreleased “Hi Papa.” Advocate Rahul Bajaj emphasized the need to enforce accessibility on OTT platforms for persons with disabilities.
“Since it is easier to replace a particular copy of the film on OTT, uploading a fresh copy of the film ‘Jawan’ with accessibility features on OTT platforms shall be considered.”
The court later stated that consultation regarding these two movies will take place on January 20, 2024, and the final hearing will be on January 31, 2024.
