A movie that built immense hype around it for its amazing casting and a brilliant trailer was SriRam Raghavan’s directorial “Merry Christmas.” The film, a slow-burn thriller set on Christmas night, stars Vijay Sethupathi and Katrina Kaif in lead roles.
It tells the story of Maria and Albert, who meet and fall in love with each other on Christmas night, amidst a murder mystery that unfolds and needs solving. The movie boasts wonderful aesthetics and a fair share of twists and turns, but it falters at the climax, testing the patience of many viewers, especially during its final moments.
Unfortunately, after its release, “Merry Christmas” was compared to Sri Ram Raghavan’s previous venture, “Andhadhun,” which became iconic. “Andhadhun” received high praise for performances by Ayushman Khurana, Tabu, and Radhika Apte, earning around 450 crores at the global box office. In contrast, “Merry Christmas,” being a slow burn, couldn’t attract as many audiences and collected only 26 crores, leading to its declaration as a box office failure.
Now, with the movie’s release on OTT, people might get to enjoy it in the comfort of their homes. “Merry Christmas” is set to release tomorrow, on March 8, 2024, exclusively on Netflix India.
