Monsanto, starring Glen Powell, Anthony Mackie and Laura Dern has been acquired by Netflix after it was showcased at the Cannes Film Festival. The project follows the true story of one of the most compelling legal battles against the American Agrochemical company of the same name. Netflix has bought the project for a sum of $ 30 million. The story encircles the character of Powell, Brent Wisner who is the legal representative of Dewayne “Lee” Johnson played by Mackie. A groundkeeper who used the pesticides of Monsanto.

The director and writer of Monsanto, John Lee Hancock shared his views on the project, stating how the “David vs Goliath” theme was very compelling to him. Stating “My ambitions are to deliver a smart, thoughtful and commercial legal drama that takes the audience on a human journey.”

John Lee Hancock has also made his mark as a filmmaker with projects like “The Blind Side” and “Saving Mr. Banks”. The negotiations over the film rights was looked over by CAA Media Finance after it was showcased by Rocket Science at Cannes.
