Netflix is delving deeper into sports content, even approaching the release of their official tournament, the Netflix Cup. When it comes to documentaries, Netflix can be crowned as the reigning champion, adding one more feather to their cap as they announce a future docuseries.
Netflix tweeted that they will be releasing a sports documentary on the U.S. Women’s National Team and their journey in the Football World Cup.
Featuring captains Alex Morgan and Lindsey Horan, the four-episode series will provide an inside look at the USWNT squad’s journey in Australia and New Zealand. The show will also spotlight rising stars Alyssa Thompson, Sofia Huerta, Lynn Williams, and Kristie Mewis, along with the recently retired Megan Rapinoe.
This year’s World Cup journey of the team hasn’t been the best, as they entered the tournament as one of the favorites but luck wasn’t on their side. The U.S. Women’s National Team had every intention of being the first team to win three World Cups, but a defeat from Sweden in the Round of 16 shattered their dreams.
In response to this, Netflix tweeted, “From enduring injury to upholding legacy, the series follows the athletes behind the most decorated team in international soccer history on the road to the 2023 FIFA World Cup.”
Netflix is already home to a plethora of popular sports documentaries and docuseries like “The Last Dance,” “Formula 1: Drive to Survive,” and “Athlete A.” Now, as they step into the realm of women’s football, the numbers are bound to rise, especially with the consideration of the United States Women’s National Soccer Team.
Under Pressure: The U.S. Women’s World Cup Team is coming to Netflix December 12, 2023.
