Not Again… Another Sherlock Series Coming Up

World’s first ‘Consulting Detective, Sherlock Holmes’, sounds so cool. He definitely is among the coolest literary characters of all time.

The creation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle did not only create an entire genre of literature but became so popular that he remains the most portrayed fictional character on screen.

Another series capturing a different aspect of the detective from Baker Street is in development. Guy Ritchie is creating a show for Amazon Prime Video focusing around the development of a young Sherlock into how we know him. Hero Fiennes Tiffin will play the role of a 19-year-old Sherlock.

Fans are elated at the return of their favourite character but one question that arises is ‘do we need another version of our beloved detective?’ Authors and filmmakers have put Holmes through everything that their creative brains could think of from serial killers to fantasy to horror, Holmes has seen it all.

They have even made shows set in the modern times, in modern cities like NYC. The last show that comes to mind is Netflix’s ‘The Irregulars’, a show centred around Holmes’ network of the homeless to gather information. It was a let down of the highest magnitude.

How Guy Ritchie’s young Holmes will be is still a mystery for which we shall have to wait for a while. But, the question remains, why destroy the legacy of a literary masterpiece with excess, just because he has become a public property?
