Warner Bros. are making some big changes when it comes to assigning shows. The production house currently brands its content as HBO originals and Max (exclusive). It has decided that it will rebrand many of its shows which were supposed to be Max exclusive as HBO originals. The company wants to maintain a clear distinction between an HBO show and a Max show.
HBO and Max content CEO at Warner Bros, Casey Bloys, revealed that they are going to move many of the upcoming big projects of Max to HBO. This decision is purely based on the view that these shows are more HBO like than Max.
This means that the upcoming and much awaited Harry Potter series will also be an HBO original. Apart from it, ‘Welcome To Derry’, an It prequel and ‘Lanterns’, an adaptation of Green Lantern, are also going to be released as HBO shows.
Bloys said that the way these shows are created are just as same as they did with the HBO shows and in many cases have the same talent working on it. That’s why it is better to brand them as HBO shows. This is certainly going to boost the brand value of HBO which suffered a little blow after Max started retaining majority of the Warner Bros shows.
