Farhan Akhtar today announced a movie titled “Operation Trident” adding on to the long standing trend of patriotic movies. The movie is to be based on the 1971 Indo-Pak War. The battle which was codenamed “Operation Trident” was a key incident when the Indian Navy caused heavy Damage to the Pakistani Ships. The battle took place in the Karachi Harbour. The Nausena Divas is celebrated in commemoration of this.
Excel Entertainment has taken up a rather daunting task, regarding the recent developments around this particular genre of movies. The patriotic movies are filled with extreme sentiments these days aiming to aggravate the “nationalist” inside every indian. Whether it be “Fighter” or its precursors like “Attack” or even “War” struggled with this exact problem. The romanticized patriotism fueled movies find it hard to connect to the audience. Not to mention the saturation of the genre.
At the same time, the fact that “Operation Trident” is based on real events gives it an edge over the rest. Movies like “URI: The Surgical Strike” and “The Ghazi Attack” garnered much respect from the fans.
Overall, how the movie performs will depend on the execution. There is still time to make speculations about what Farhan will present to us, as there was no talk of a release date.
