Winning is a huge event, but receiving a nomination is also something to be proud of. It appears that Netflix is actively adding titles to expand its collection.
To that end, we have one more addition. The Oscar-nominated documentary “To Kill a Tiger” is now available on Netflix. The compelling narrative of Ranjit, a farmer from rural India’s Jharkhand area, is told in this stirring film, which initially stunned viewers at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2022 and went on to win Best Documentary at the 2023 Palm Springs International Film Festival.
After his 13-year-old daughter is brutally raped by a gang, Ranjit’s world is turned upside down. This led him to start an extensive and widespread search for justice.” To Kill a Tiger” received critical praise and a coveted Oscar nomination, yet despite its superior quality, it had trouble finding a distributor. The acquisition of Netflix will help, though.
We hope that “To Kill a Tiger,” an Indian narrative, takes home the prize. The Elephant Whisperers’ Oscar win from the previous year significantly improved public perception of documentaries in India. We’ll see the movie on Netflix for sure, but let’s see whether it takes home the Oscar.
