Amazon Prime Video has been announcing a long list of shows over the last 2-3 years. One of them was Raj & DK’s period sex comedy Gulkanda Tales and as per the latest update, the show has been reportedly canceled by the streaming platform.
Gulkanda Tales was supposed to mark Raj & DK’s fourth collaboration with Amazon Prime Video after The Family Man, Farzi, and Citadel: Honey Bunny.
However, reports have claimed that Amazon Prime is not satisfied with the final product despite that the show has gone through multiple reshoots and edits with a reported budget of Rs. 120 crores. An insider claimed that Amazon Prime is not sure about whether the show would get released in the future.
Apart from that, Citadel: Honey Bunny, which had Varun Dhawan and Samantha Ruth Prabhu among the lead roles, created a lot of hype with its posters, teaser, and trailer. However, the show was not up to the mark and received a mixed reaction from critics, due to which it is not getting a second season.
On the other hand, Raj & DK have already cast Samantha Ruth Prabhu for another show on Netflix, titled Rakt Brahmand. It features Aditya Roy Kapur, Wamiqa Gabbi, and Ali Fazal in other important roles.
Meanwhile, the show is facing an obstacle since an investigation has been launched into financial fraud worth Rs. 2 crores associated with the executive producer. The investigation is being monitored by Netflix and further updates are currently awaited.
It seems like Raj & DK is going through a bad phase after Citadel: Honey Bunny. Following the success of The Family Man, Raj & DK possibly became over-ambitious due to which their projects are not doing so well. The proof is right in front of our screens where the stories and characters have not left a positive impression.
However, expectations are still sky-high from The Family Man Season 3, which is expected to premiere sometime this year, and will feature most of the cast members reprising their roles from the first two seasons.
