Amazon Prime’s Raakh: The Next Paatal Lok on OTT?

Ali Fazal in Raakh crime thriller series trailer

The team behind one of India’s most acclaimed crime dramas is returning with another gripping investigation-based series. Prosit Roy, who directed the first season of Paatal Lok, is back with Raakh, a crime thriller inspired by the infamous Ranga Billa case that shocked the country in 1978.

Raakh is scheduled to premiere on Prime Video on June 12, 2026. Set against the backdrop of late 1970s Delhi, the series follows Sub Inspector Jayprakash, portrayed by Ali Fazal, as he investigates the disappearance of two children.

As the investigation unfolds, what begins as a search operation gradually develops into a deeper exploration of grief, morality and the darker aspects of human behaviour. The series aims to blend crime, emotion and suspense within a real-life inspired narrative.

The show also features Sonali Bendre and Aamir Bashir in important roles. With an experienced cast and a subject rooted in a widely discussed criminal case, expectations surrounding the series have steadily grown ahead of its release.

Many viewers may already be familiar with the Ranga Billa case. The incident was previously referenced in Netflix’s Black Warrant, which explored the aftermath of the murders and the time the accused spent in Tihar Jail.

Based on the promotional material released so far, Raakh appears to be more than a straightforward crime retelling. The series seems focused on examining the emotional impact of the tragedy and the lasting scars left on those affected by it.

If the storytelling and execution resonate with audiences, Raakh could emerge as one of the most talked-about Indian crime dramas of the year. The combination of a real-life case and an investigative narrative adds to its appeal.

Prosit Roy’s involvement has further increased interest in the project. Paatal Lok earned widespread appreciation for its storytelling, characters and gripping narrative. The series built a strong following among viewers and remains one of the most recognised crime dramas in India.

With Raakh, Prosit Roy enters familiar territory once again. Whether the new series can recreate the impact achieved by Paatal Lok remains to be seen, but anticipation is certainly building ahead of its premiere.
