When you have a series that is easily the definition of genre-breaking, it is sad to see it fall into the same mould as the rest. Yes, we are talking about The Boys S4. The trailer has set the fans in motion. There’s a lot to be talked about, so let’s dive in and see through the good, the bad, and the ugly.

The Boys are back. The season 4 trailer looks promising and is setting up the stage for another showdown between Karl Urban’s Billy Butcher and Antony Starr’s Homelander. There is, of course, Starlight, Huey, and the rest of the gang. What we can make up from the trailer is that the supes are now moving towards letting their “celebrity status” go to fully exercise their powers over the world. There are two new members added to “The Seven”: Sister Sage and Firecracker. On the other hand, we see Victoria Neuman inching closer to the White House.

Amidst all that, we can speculate that The Boys is moving away from its core formula. Now The Butcher and The Boys have become “saviours” and “heroes” of the story. The Boys was never a story about heroism. The motives had always been personal vendettas and much more human feelings, like the inability to move on from grief and taking a stand against the powerful. What’s even the point if this one show, which was considered to be an entirely different league, assimilates into the same idea pool as Marvel and DC, which it was meant to satirize?

Anyway, we’ll witness our beloved “cunts” pick up the cape and be the heroes, or maybe The Boys will keep up with the uncertainty for which it is known with some clever subversion. Mark the date: the series drops on June 13 and will have its finale on July 18.
