With just a little more than a day since its release, “Chamkila” has already built tremendous hype. The movie is expected to be huge in so many ways, with Imtiaz Ali back in the director’s chair after “Love Aaj Kal.”
Apart from the trio of A.R. Rahman, Irshad Kamil, and Imtiaz Ali, there are many reasons to get excited about the movie. It’s not just a regular biopic but also explores the journey of Amar Singh Chamkila, a man who had the power to change the Punjabi Music industry but was gone too soon, through the eyes of his family, friends, and fans.
The movie was previewed at the MAMI film festival, with a packed theater, and the initial response is overwhelming. People are going crazy over it, calling it one of the best biopics. Even the director got emotional after seeing the response the film has received.
Netflix backing an Imtiaz Ali movie is something the audience has never seen before. His movies are always considered to be a miss in theaters but super successful on personal screens. “Chamkila” aims to bring change. Let’s see if it will be able to achieve that or not.
