Why So Much Hate On OTT’s Biggest Show?

Heeramandi Netflix

Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s debut web series, “Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar,” created with a whopping budget of over 200 crore, has been making waves in the OTT world since its release on May 1.

The series quickly soared to the top spot as the most-watched Indian series on Netflix in its first week.

“Heeramandi” not only made it to the Top 10 charts in 43 countries but also snagged the second spot in the Non-English TV List.

With an impressive 4.5 million views and 33 million hours of viewership, the series exceeded everyone’s expectations.

Despite facing tough competition, “Heeramandi” managed to outshine popular shows like “The Great Indian Kapil Show” and even major international Netflix productions during its debut week.

However, despite its success, there’s been some buzz on social media claiming the series is a colossal flop, which doesn’t seem to align with the actual numbers and viewer feedback.

While it may not be without flaws, “Heeramandi” offers a refreshing break from the usual OTT content, showcasing Bhansali’s signature style and flair. Yes, the series suffers from pacing issues and occasional dull moments in the screenplay, but definitely, it doesn’t deserve the hate it is getting.

It seems there is some agenda to spread negativity about the web series. Also, there are a few who are spreading hate against the series just because it is set in Pakistan and glorifies prostitutes.

There are also some people spreading the narrative that Indian web series, especially big-budget ones like the 200-crore Heeramandi, have had a tough time lately, casting doubts on future investments by OTT platforms.

But contrary to these doubts, “Heeramandi” has managed to surpass many international shows and is trending globally, likely to stay on top for a while longer, much to the delight of Netflix and potential investors.

There have been a few washouts on Netflix recently like Murder Mubarak and others, but Heeramandi is not one of them for sure.
