Zoya Akhtar’s ‘The Archies’: Released on Netflix

Zoya Akhtar's 'The Archies

Zoya Akhtar’s highly awaited musical, “The Archies,” has finally premiered on Netflix, and as expected, people have polarizing opinions about it. Some appreciate it, while others pan the series as a ’60s fashion show with kids delivering subpar acting.

All of us can agree that Zoya Akhtar is a great director who has given us some of the most beautiful movies like “ZNMD” and “Dil Dhadakne Do.” However, there is always a sense of elitism in her stories, which is clearly visible in this one. The story is set in the fictional town of Riverdale, where the families of a few Anglo-Indians live with their kids, who are the same characters from the comics.

Among them is Mr. Hiram Lodge, Suhana Khan’s father, who plans to build a hotel in the green park where they spend a significant part of their lives. Now, the tussle begins between the friends. The problem is that the entire summary was already explained in its trailer, so nothing, especially from a storytelling perspective, surprises the audience.

The beautiful thing about the movie is its stunning setting and cinematography that truly transports you to the world. You can watch “The Archies” if you already love the comics. The musical, starring Agastya Nanda, Khushi Kapoor, Suhana Khan, Vedang Raina, and Mihir Ahuja, is available on Netflix India.
