After over a decade, the iconic comedy duo, Akshay Kumar and Priyadarshan, reunite in Ekta Kapoor’s newest horror comedy, Bhooth Bangla.

Along with this, the duo will also be working together in the rumored remake of Mohanlal’s Oppam and Hera Pheri 3, which is set to go on floors in 2026.

With their previous cult classics like Hera Pheri, Garam Masala, Bhool Bhulaiya, etc., it’s evident that if there’s anyone who can utilize Akshay’s comedic talent to its full potential, it’s Priyadarshan.

Except for Kesari 2, Akshay is on a streak of delivering sub-par movies. Even with a lineup of a star-studded cast, his 2024 comedy Khel Khel Mein turned out to be a commercial disappointment.

Apart from pulling in the numbers, it will also be a task for Akshay to deliver performances that resonate with today’s audience.

Similar speculations are being made for his upcoming comedies Housefull 5 and Jolly LLB.

Priyadarshan’s latest few projects were Malayalam films, Marakkar: Lion of the Arabian Sea (2021) and Corona Papers (2023) which had a limited theatrical release and an underwhelming box-office collection.

Hungama 2, featuring Paresh Rawal and Shilpa Shetty, which was an OTT release, also failed to create the expected buzz of being a Priyadarshan comedy.

Although Priyadarshan’s comedic writing is pure gold, with every other scene from his previous movies becoming an iconic meme, many think he might have run out of his creative juices.

With just the announcement creating such a riot among fans, it will be exciting to see what this duo brings the big screen.

Cinema-goers are starved for some gut-busting comedy.

Will this duo’s return to Bollywood revive the comedy genre, or will this be another disappointment for the audience? We’ll have to see for ourselves.
