Apart from Jolly LLB 3, Akshay Kumar will be a part of another courtroom drama film, Kesari Chapter 2. The title might hint that it is a sequel to the 2019 film Kesari but it is not.
The upcoming film is going to focus on the life of lawyer and freedom fighter C Sankaran Nair, who fought against the British Raj to get justice for the victims of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. The film also features R Madhavan and Ananya Panday playing important roles.
While the film was supposed to arrive on Holi this year, it has been shifted to another date. The date of Holi has now been given to Dhadak 2 and Karan Johar serves as a producer of both the films. However, an official announcement is awaited and the makers of Kesari Chapter 2 are yet to finalize another date.
Dhadak 2 will get a solo run on Holi. But the big question is whether audiences are interested in watching a sequel to a film that was released around seven years ago.
Although the first film emerged as a success at the box office, it was still criticized by a lot of people for being a bad remake of the Marathi film Sairat and for removing the concept of cast discrimination. Dhadak had Ishaan Khatter and Janhvi Kapoor playing the lead roles.
The sequel features Siddhant Chaturvedi and Tripti Dimrii, and none of them can pull big crowds to theatres. Although Tripti has expanded her fanbase after the release of Animal, everyone is well-aware that the film has worked only because of its content and the star power of Ranbir Kapoor.
While Kesari Chapter 2 is yet to get an official release date, Akshay Kumar’s appearance in two courtroom dramas might not work in his favor. Akshay is already going through a bad phase and getting another flop to his list of films might not be a good sign for him.
