Bad Reviews Effect: Flat Box Office Trend

Bad Newz

Bad Newz saw a decent Saturday with collections over ₹10 crore net, bringing its two-day total to ₹18.50 crore net. However, the growth of just 25% is a red flag.

Typically, films with positive word-of-mouth experience a 40-50% increase in collections on Saturdays, but Bad Newz’s limited rise suggests that the negative reviews are taking their toll.

Sunday’s performance is critical. The film’s reliance on urban multiplexes, which often see a drop in business during evening and night shows, could lead to a flat or even decreased collection on Sunday.

Current booking trends indicate that the film may struggle to surpass Saturday’s figures, potentially capping its first weekend around ₹30 crore instead of the projected ₹32-33 crore.

For a metro-centric film, this flat trend is concerning. Although the film’s earnings are decent for its medium budget, the overall trend is very concerning. To sustain at the box office, Monday’s collections need to drop by less than 50% from Friday’s figures.

Trade experts suggest that Bad Newz needs to reach ₹75 crore nett to be considered a hit. With current trends, it might only manage ₹60-65 crore.
