
After a decent first weekend of 29 crores, Karan Johar’s Bad Newz dropped big time on its first Monday. Bad Newz collected around 3.50 crore nett on its first Monday which is almost a 60% drop from the first day.
The film also started BOGO (Buy One Get One Offer) on Tuesday in the hope that it will increase collections.

This is a dangerous trend in Bollywood. Buy1 Get1 should be for 4th & 5th Week Blockbuster Films like Pathaan and Jawan to get as much out of it as they can before the end of the run but not for 1st Week! This is an unofficial confession from the makers that your film ain’t working.
trade and even exhibitors have warned that the Buy-One-Get-One (BOGO) offer is harmful in the long run. They fear that the viewers will get used to it and will wait for the scheme to be implemented. In the process, they might skip watching the film and hence, the producer will lose the potential audience.

Additionally, producers lose money on these free tickets. For example, if a ticket costs Rs. 112 (Rs. 100 plus Rs. 12 tax), the producer usually earns Rs. 52. But for the free ticket, they have to pay Rs. 48 to the cinema and the Rs. 12 tax, losing Rs. 60 for every free ticket, which means a negative share.
The total for the film so far is 32.50 crore net and the first week should go to around 42 crore net which is not a very good total but it is all about what it does when Deadpool and Wolverine releases this week. It is expected that Bad Newz will crash.

The bad reviews have affected the collections big time and the road to success looks tough from here. The film might finish its lifetime business at around 60 crores net and will bet an average verdict at the box office at best.
