After Dhurandhar, Salman’s Film Faces Political Heat Now

Salman Khan in Battle of Galwan war drama

The Indian Ministry of External Affairs recently issued a statement regarding Salman Khan’s upcoming war drama Battle of Galwan. The clarification triggered widespread discussion online, with many debating the film’s possible political undertones and international implications ahead of its planned release.

In its statement, the MEA said it is aware that a film of this nature is being planned. It clarified that filmmaking matters in India are handled by relevant authorities and that the ministry has no direct role in such ventures or creative decisions.

The response followed reports in several Chinese media outlets, which alleged that the film carries an anti-Chinese agenda. These reports claimed the narrative focuses strongly on the Indian Army’s perspective during the Galwan Valley clash of 2020.

Concerns were also raised as Salman Khan’s character is inspired by the real life story of Colonel Bikkumalla Santosh Babu. Some observers compared it to Dhurandhar, suggesting the film may blend fictional elements with real events linked closely to history.

Directed by Apoorva Lakhia and produced by Salman Khan, Battle of Galwan depicts the 2020 clash between Indian and Chinese troops. The incident led to the martyrdom of Colonel Bikkumalla Santosh Babu and 19 other Indian soldiers in harsh Himalayan terrain.

The clash reportedly arose from disputes over border infrastructure and marked the first fatal confrontation between the two countries since 1975. Due to ongoing territorial tensions, industry watchers believe the film’s portrayal may not sit well with China.

The MEA’s clarification is seen as an effort to maintain neutrality and avoid diplomatic strain during sensitive border discussions. It also stated that the film’s certification and content review fall under bodies like the Central Board of Film Certification.

Battle of Galwan is scheduled for release on April 17, 2026. Starring Salman Khan, the film is expected to spark strong reactions and conversations around geopolitics, cinema, and India’s military history.
