It seems like many went to watch the horror comedy without much expectation. This is quite evident in the social media reactions that are coming up after the film’s release.
Mouni Roy, who gave excellent performances in films like Brahmastra and Made in China, has become the target of criticism again. A few even went on to call her character a cheap version of Stree with poor VFX and cringe acting.
A user said, “#TheBhootni — MEDIOCRE!

This bhootni will definitely SCARE the producers, distributors and exhibitors!
A few moments do make you laugh (thanks to the one-liners) but not a single scene scares you.”
Another wrote, “#TheBhootnii is proof that even ghosts deserve better scripts
The horror isn’t scary, the comedy feels like 2010 YouTube, and the plot vanishes more often than the ghost.
By the end, I wasn’t scared, just spiritually exhausted.
Stree walked so this film could trip, fall, and vanish into oblivion.”
Here’s another one, “No scary moments, comedy is based on one liner punches… Nick & Asif Khan are the only reason to watch this movie
Even #SanjayDutt BABA swag didn’t work in this weak script.”
The primary characters in the film, including Mouni Roy and Sanjay Dutt are some of the best performers in Indian cinema. Yet, one mistake, and their decision to act in this mid-budget film has led to a disaster. This is quite evident in the audience reactions on social media, which are mostly negative.
At a time when a high-budget film like Raid 2 is being released on the same day, the chances of The Bhootnii getting some love from the audience is quite rare.
