Ajay Devgn and Bhushan Kumar

Ajay Devgn’s Raid 2, opening on May 1, 2025, has the burden of great expectations after the 2018 original, which was a success with a ₹72 crore budget and a net box office collection of around ₹100 crore. Yet, the advance booking numbers for Raid 2 indicate a tepid beginning.

The movie picked up about 30,000 tickets at big chains such as PVR, Inox, and Cinepolis for the opening day, which worked out to an advance booking collection of about ₹92 lakh in 24 hours-good but not spectacular by any means.

At first, one was expecting that the follow-up would arrive at a budget of approximately ₹15 crore considering the follow-up benefit and holiday opening advantage on May 1. However, ongoing trends are hinting at an opening as modest as ₹10-12 crore.

The worry is that if the word of mouth is not good, the movie may witness a big fall on the second day, particularly as it is on a working day, with not much jump anticipated over the weekend.

Bollywood needs a big hit, and Raid 2 has high hopes. But discretion advises waiting for the film to speak for itself in the box office before leaping to plans for Raid 3, even as producers Bhushan Kumar and Kumar Mangat have made bullish declarations regarding the franchise’s continuation.

It would ultimately be an optimistic result if Raid 2 at least replicates the success of the first installment instead of shooting starry-eyed high from the very beginning. The franchise’s future rests mostly on this showing.
