Kalki Stree 2

Bollywood’s box office has had a rough year, with major releases like Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, Maidaan, Chandu Champion, and Sarfira failing to impress. The only film to cross the 200-crore mark was Fighter, which barely managed to perform at an average level.

Meanwhile, South Indian films like Kalki 2898 AD and Hanu Man, along with some Hollywood blockbusters, have been the saving grace for theaters this year.

Kalki 2898 AD, in particular, became the biggest Hindi opener of 2024, raking in 22 crores on its first day. Fighter followed closely with 21 crores.

Just as it seemed Bollywood might not bounce back this year, along comes Stree 2, starring Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao—both talented actors but not typically seen as box office heavyweights.

Set to release on August 15, with paid previews starting tomorrow, Stree 2 is already generating massive buzz. Initial projections suggested an opening day collection of 25 crores, but with the way advance bookings are going, the film is now poised to easily cross 35 crores and could even touch 40 crores net on its first day.

If we factor in the paid previews, the opening day figure could approach 50 crores net opening—a milestone few films have reached, such as Jawan, Pathaan, WAR, Thugs Of Hindostan, and Animal. But unlike those big-budget event films, Stree 2 is a medium-budget release.

The film’s potential success can be attributed to the strong franchise value of Stree, the appeal of the horror-comedy genre, and its hit soundtrack.

Shraddha Kapoor’s Stree 2 is all set to demolish Prabhas’ opening day record set by ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ which was unimaginable a few weeks ago.
