While sequels seem to be trending in Bollywood, many films that hinted at a second part have never made it past the announcement stage. Some titles, despite strong fan demand, remain in development limbo.
Films like Go Goa Gone, Jagga Jasoos, Chandni Chowk to China and Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota had promised sequels. But due to their poor box office performance, a continuation now looks unlikely.
Even recent releases like Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya, Ganpath and Bholaa ended on cliffhangers. While sequels were teased (Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya 2, Ganpath 2, Bholaa 2), they are yet to be confirmed.
On the other hand, confirmed sequels like Baaghi 4, Dhoom 4 and Krrish 4 are in different stages of development. But there’s one major film whose sequel might not happen anytime soon Brahmāstra.
Starring Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt, Brahmāstra ended with the promise of an origin story of “Deva.” However, fans now believe Brahmāstra 2 may be delayed or shelved altogether.
Ranbir is currently busy with Ramayana, Love and War and Dhoom 4. Alia, too, is tied up with Alpha and Love and War. Fans feel their packed schedules could delay the sequel for years.
Cliffhangers are often used as a marketing tactic, raising hopes for a franchise. But when a film underperforms, producers quietly drop the sequel plans.
It’s a wait-and-watch game for many of these potential sequels. So, which Bollywood sequel do you hope to see made next?
