Shocking Numbers: What Went Wrong for Shahid, Kriti, Rashmika?

Cocktail 2 is set to hit theatres in just a few days and has already generated attention for its bold theme and lavish visuals. The sequel aims to attract younger audiences by building on the popularity of the original film and offering a stylish cinematic experience.

Advance bookings for the film opened a few days ahead of release. However, the initial response has been below expectations. Trade analysts believe that despite having a subject that appeals to urban youth, the absence of chartbuster music could affect its opening prospects compared to the first instalment.

The original Cocktail recorded an opening of Rs. 10.50 crores in 2012. Since the box office landscape has changed significantly over the years, expectations from the sequel are much higher. Industry experts believe the film needs to exceed the original’s performance to justify its scale.

According to early reports, around 15,000 tickets have been sold across national multiplex chains for the opening day. Trade experts suggest that if momentum improves over the next 48 hours, reaching 30,000 tickets could provide a positive boost before release.

The underwhelming booking trend has triggered several discussions online. Some viewers believe Shahid Kapoor has struggled to deliver strong openings with solo-led films in recent years. They feel that careful script selection could help him recreate the box office success of Kabir Singh.

Others have criticised Maddock Films for what they perceive as limited promotional efforts. A section of social media users believes that relying heavily on franchise value and grand visuals may not be enough to attract audiences without a stronger marketing campaign.

With a reported budget of nearly Rs. 150 crores, Cocktail 2 requires a strong double-digit opening to sustain its theatrical run. Although the film has received an Adults Only certificate, industry observers feel that audience interest and positive word-of-mouth will ultimately determine its fate.

The upcoming weekend is expected to be closely monitored by trade circles regardless of the film’s performance. All eyes are now on whether Cocktail 2 can overcome its slow advance booking trend and deliver the big opening many had anticipated.
