Housefull 5 Public Response

People walked into theatres hoping Housefull 5 would finally be a film they could enjoy with friends and have a good, fun time. Little did they know they’d walk out filled with disgust.

Housefull 5 released today, and it made audiences realise just how far the standards for Indian comedy in films have fallen.

As quickly as the film threw out sexual innuendos, viewers were just as quick to share their reactions on social media.

They pointed out how disgusting and vile Bollywood humour has become—riddled with sexual jokes, degrading women, cracks about pubic hair, Malaika’s butt, farts, and insulting gay stereotypes. They also did not shy away from adding some 69 jokes in it as well.

The film’s humour seems to revolve entirely around double-meaning sexual jokes and calling women every name but a respectful one.

Many questioned whether they were supposed to laugh at characters being hit in the genitals, or at men ogling a woman’s body, reducing her to just a sexual object.

Some also noted that it was no surprise the film was co-written by Farhad Samji, given the outdated and problematic approach to comedy.

The humour was disgusting, disrespectful, and outright problematic, with hardly anything to laugh about, aside from a few moments delivered by Akshay Kumar.

No one went in expecting to analyse it with a critical lens. All they wanted was to relax and have a good time. But instead, they left the theatres feeling disgusted rather than entertained.

Such humour doesn’t just show the sad state of comedy in Indian cinema, it also normalises the idea that objectifying women or relying solely on sexual innuendos is the only way to make people laugh.

If Bollywood’s comedy standards keep falling like this, fans might soon find it hard to walk into theatres expecting a genuinely fun time.
