IND W Beat BAN W: Semifinal Race Takes Dramatic Turn

India Women celebrate win over Bangladesh

India Women kept their semifinal hopes alive in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 with a comfortable five-wicket victory over Bangladesh Women. The result has strengthened India’s position in the tournament, but a tougher challenge could still lie ahead.

Bangladesh Women opted to bat first and posted 136/8 in their 20 overs. Zueria Firdous scored 33 runs, while captain Nigar Sultana contributed 32. However, Bangladesh struggled to build meaningful partnerships as India’s bowlers maintained control throughout the innings.

Radha Yadav was the standout performer with the ball, claiming three wickets. Shri Charani also made an important contribution by picking up two wickets. Their efforts ensured Bangladesh could not accelerate during the crucial stages of the innings.

Chasing 137, India Women started positively with Shafali Verma taking the attack to the opposition. Smriti Mandhana was dismissed early for eight runs, but Shafali continued to dominate and kept the chase firmly on track.

Shafali scored a brilliant 53 off 34 deliveries, striking eight boundaries and a six. After her departure, Yastika Bhatia added 23 runs, while Jemimah Rodrigues played a quick and effective knock of 26 from just 15 balls.

India reached the target comfortably and secured a valuable victory. The win keeps them firmly in contention for a semifinal berth and boosts confidence ahead of the remaining group-stage matches.

Attention now turns to India’s upcoming clash against Australia. At present, the match appears crucial in deciding India’s semifinal fate. A victory could significantly improve their chances of progressing to the knockout stage.

However, there is another possible twist in the qualification race. If Bangladesh Women defeat South Africa Women in their next match, the pressure on India against Australia could reduce, making the qualification scenario more open.

For now, India Women have done what was required. The focus will now shift to the highly anticipated contest against Australia as the race for the semifinals intensifies.
