Welcome to the Jungle Review: So Bad It’s Actually Fun?

Bollywood’s latest sequel Welcome to the Jungle revolves around a corrupt politician who plans to convert his black money into white by deliberately producing the biggest flop film ever. To execute the bizarre scheme, he hires directors Dev and Das, who assemble a dysfunctional team of flop actors and terrible technicians. Whether the film gets made, whether the politician succeeds, why real terrorists get involved, and whether the intended flop turns into a blockbuster form the story.

Akshay Kumar is undoubtedly the film’s biggest strength, delivering effortless dialogue delivery, physical comedy, and impeccable comic timing. Even when the writing weakens, he keeps the laughs coming through sheer screen presence. His chemistry with Suniel Shetty is outstanding, particularly in a hilarious village rivalry sequence that ranks among the funniest moments in the film.

Disha Patani looks hot throughout and lends decent support, while Jacqueline Fernandez pleasantly surprises with her intentionally dumb character and earns some decent laughs.

Director Ahmad Khan fully embraces the film’s absurd premise instead of trying to justify it. The first half is packed with slapstick humor, nostalgic references, meta jokes, and entertaining misunderstandings.

Numerous callbacks to classic Bollywood films work well, while Farhad Samji’s dialogues deliver some genuinely funny one-liners. Ahmad also deserves credit for handling the massive ensemble and giving most major characters memorable moments.

However, the film loses momentum in the second half as several jokes become repetitive and some fail to land. The Kaanta Laga sequence featuring Jacqueline Fernandez and Disha Patani feels cringe, though it is likely to appeal to audiences in B and C centers.

Jackie Shroff’s serious villain track disrupts the film’s self-aware tone. The action scenes and overall narrative suffer from poor editing, making several portions feel abruptly stitched together.

Suniel Shetty, Arshad Warsi, Jackie Shroff, Farida Jalal, Kiran Kumar, Raveena Tandon, Shreyas Talpade, and Vindu Dara Singh contribute effectively to the comedy. However, Paresh Rawal, Rajpal Yadav, and Aftab Shivdasani are wasted, while Daler Mehndi, Yashpal Sharma, Krushna Abhishek, Kiku Sharda, and Mukesh Tiwari add little to the fun.

Overall, Welcome to the Jungle is a brain rot entertainer with a weak story, an uneven second half, and several cringe gags, but enough nostalgia, slapstick humor, and comic moments to make it an enjoyable one-time watch for fans of old-school Bollywood comedies.
