The trailer for Mastiii 4, the fourth instalment of the popular Masti franchise, has finally dropped, reviving Bollywood’s most infamous adult comedy series that first began in 2004.
Directed by Milap Zaveri, the film reunites Riteish Deshmukh, Vivek Oberoi, and Aftab Shivdasani as Amar, Meet, and Prem. The trailer also features Tusshar Kapoor, Arshad Warsi, and Nargis Fakhri in key supporting roles.
The trailer promises “4x laughter, 4x fun,” filled with sexual innuendoes, slapstick humour, and double-meaning dialogues all trademarks of the franchise. Produced by Ekta Kapoor and Indra Kumar under Balaji Telefilms and Zee Studios, the film appears to stick to the same brand of adult humour that defined its earlier parts.
However, audience reactions have been sharply divided. Some fans call it a laugh riot, while others find it outdated and cringe-worthy. Many viewers believe the film’s over-the-top jokes would have fared better on OTT platforms.
One scene from the trailer sparked particular outrage an elderly man tells Aftab Shivdasani’s character that he wants to sleep with a young girl, even if it kills her. The moment has drawn strong criticism for being insensitive and regressive.
Several social media users, especially women, condemned the film’s tone. Many questioned how the actors could continue doing projects that degrade women for humour. Critics and trade analysts echoed these views, noting that the franchise’s earlier entries also faced backlash for their portrayal of women.
While Grand Masti (2013) was an A-rated box office success, earning over ₹100 crore globally, its sequel Great Grand Masti (2016) failed both critically and commercially.
With Mastiii 4, the makers risk alienating today’s audience. Still, analysts believe its loyal fan base in tier-2 and tier-3 cities might help it find moderate success at the box office.
