Akshay Kumar and Priyadarshan are reportedly coming together for another film, which will be a remake of the Malayalam film Oppam, also directed by Priyadarshan. Released in 2016, the action-thriller had Mohanlal in the lead, playing the role of a blind man.
A source claimed that Priyadarshan had approached Akshay for the remake, and the latter has already agreed to play the lead. The insider also mentioned that it will feature Saif Ali Khan opposite Akshay.
The source said that the film will feature an intense confrontation between Akshay and Saif, and it is reportedly going on floors in August this year. The insider added that the remake is expected to arrive by the second half of 2026.
Notably, Akshay, Priyadarshan, or Saif are yet to make an official statement on the same. But the biggest question is whether the film is a good choice for both the lead actors and Priyadarshan at the same time.
Remakes are not being accepted by the audience anymore, except if they are up to the mark or an adaptation of a film that has not been seen by anyone.
The original film came out almost nine years ago, and considering that, there is a possibility that the story might appear outdated to the audience. While multi-starrer films can prove to be beneficial for Bollywood, a remake might bring more loss instead of profits.
Akshay and Saif have collaborated in the past and irrespective of the film’s verdict at the box office, their pairing was loved by the audience in cult classics like Main Khiladi Tu Anari.
However, until an official confirmation is out, nothing can be said about the film’s fate. But in case the remake is happening, maybe Priyadarshan has to make certain changes to suit the taste of the Hindi audience. Let’s wait for more updates in the upcoming months.
