The August release calendar is undergoing major changes, and Maddock Films appears to be adjusting its strategy. Reports suggest that Eetha, starring Shraddha Kapoor, will no longer release on its originally planned date of August 28.
Another Maddock Films project, Prahaar, has also reportedly been postponed. The Rajkummar Rao starrer was initially scheduled to hit theatres on August 7. The move has surprised trade observers as the film had already generated strong interest among audiences.
The teaser of Prahaar, which was attached to Cocktail 2, received a positive response. However, trade reports indicate that the makers felt August 7 was not the ideal release window for a film of this scale.
One major reason appears to be the crowded theatrical schedule. Prahaar would have released soon after Spider-Man: Brand New Day on July 30 and just a week before Batwara 1947 and Awarapan 2, both arriving on August 14. The competition for screens and audience attention is expected to be intense.
Reports suggest that Maddock Films wants to give Prahaar a better chance by choosing a less crowded release period. Since the film is expected to rely on positive word of mouth, a cleaner release window could improve its theatrical performance.
The postponement had already become a topic of discussion in trade circles. Maddock Films is known for launching aggressive promotional campaigns well before release. However, with very little marketing activity ahead of the August 7 date, many expected a change in plans.
Prahaar is based on the life of renowned special public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam. Rajkummar Rao plays the lead role, while Wamiqa Gabbi, Jaideep Ahlawat and Sikandar Kher feature in important roles. The film is expected to focus on a strong, character-driven narrative.
The reported delay has also sparked fresh speculation about Maddock Films’ upcoming release strategy. After Eetha and Prahaar, trade analysts are now wondering whether Shakti Shalini could also witness a change in its release schedule.
