After her journey as a writer of multiple projects, Kanika Dhillon is all set to make her directorial debut. The script is being prepared, and the new update has revealed that Saif Ali Khan will play the lead along with Kiara Advani.
The movie is expected to go on the floors by the end of 2026. Although it is in the scripting stage, an insider has opened up about the themes, saying that it is going to be a thriller with a supernatural element. Apart from Kanika, Excel Entertainment is equally involved.
Considering that the upcoming film marks the appearance of Saif Ali Khan and Kiara Advani for the first time together, netizens are excited to see them. Most of them stated that since this is a new pairing, there is a possibility that audiences might get to witness something unique on screen.
On the other hand, questions are being raised about Kanika’s directorial skills. The majority of social media users pointed out that as a writer, Kanika’s work is not something that has received universal praise. Most of them addressed the fact that the OTT films written by Kanika have been hardly entertaining for the audience.
A few fans of Shah Rukh Khan also pointed out that Kanika’s writing was one of the major reasons why Dunki did not work at the box office and failed to emerge as a blockbuster, compared to Pathaan and Jawan.
But a particular section stated that the upcoming film can survive if the supernatural elements are entertaining. People said this is one of the safest genres in Bollywood today. They even mentioned that if it is a theatrical release, the budget has to be Rs. 20 crores or less to ensure better profits. However, they said that the makers can earn more profit if they release it on OTT.
Notably, Saif was supposed to do Race 4. However, his decision to leave the sequel and opt for a supernatural thriller has led to mixed reactions. While some of his fans called it a bad decision, others supported, saying that the actor will get a chance to play something different.
As of now, nothing much can be predicted until the makers bring a teaser, trailer, or any other glimpse. Let’s see if Kanika Dhillon will have a good start as a director.
