Taare Zameen Par’s spiritual remake is finally under the lines and will be released soon on 20 June. It is named Sitaare Zameen Par and is an official Bollywood remake of the Spanish film Campeones.
The self-acclaimed film critic KRK has sparked controversy by calling Aamir Khan “Tingu Bhai” and “Copy Master” as he calls Sitaare Zameen Par a copy of Rajpal Yadav’s Maktoob. Same rumours were sparked during the success of Lapata Ladies when Anant Mahadevan claimed that his film Ghunghat Ke Pat Khol has been copied by Aamir Khan’s production house.
Although the posters of Sitaare Zameen Par and Maktoob look similar, it can’t be confirmed yet that the two are the same in plot. Fans after looking at such stark comparisons are wondering if Aamir’s originality is exhausted.
While adoption of ideas and appropriation of the same in localised context is not new in the industry. But if one after the other a star comes under plagiarism charges it is a bit concerning.
Although this time the makers have themselves confirmed that they are adapting a Spanish film. Fans are wondering if Aamir’s magic will make this adapted project into a league of its own.
