Sooraj Barjatya has confirmed he is making a new film with Salman Khan, described as an age-appropriate love story that may mark the return of the beloved character ‘Prem’. He is also working on another family drama with Ayushmann Khurrana and Sharvari.
Revisiting his signature family drama style with Salman is both nostalgic and risky in today’s Gen Z-driven film market. Barjatya admits that writing simple yet authentic stories is now a big challenge, especially in balancing age, fun, and emotional depth.
From Maine Pyaar Kiya to Hum Aapke Hain Koun..! his work once shaped blockbuster cinema rooted in Indian traditions. However, younger viewers now lean towards layered storytelling, realism, and modern conflicts that contrast with Barjatya’s uncomplicated, values-driven narratives.
His last outing with Salman, Prem Ratan Dhan Payo (2015), was visually grand but seen as outdated in theme. Its success relied on Diwali release timing and Khan’s stardom more than the story, showing the gap between nostalgia and modern appeal.
Despite changing audience tastes, Barjatya remains committed to wholesome cinema. The upcoming films will test if old-school love and family tales can still strike a chord. The results will reveal if tradition can survive in a rapidly evolving cinematic landscape.
