Sunny Deol’s Suryaa is scheduled to arrive in theatres next month. A remake of the 2018 Malayalam film, Joseph, the project has already landed itself in trouble before its release.
The movie is going to focus on medical corruption, and it is something that is not being liked by the Indian Medical Association, also called IMA, which wrote a letter to Ashwini Vaishnaw, the Minister for Information and Broadcasting, to review the film. A copy of the letter is also going viral on social media.
Notably, the IMA requested Ashwini to review the film for its portrayal of the medical profession and violence against healthcare workers. The IMA pointed out certain sequences from the teaser, including assaults on healthcare professionals.
The matter received a mixed response on social media. But a majority was spotted addressing the fact that Suryaa was not showing something that does not exist in real life. Netizens alleged that corruption in hospitals and the medical field happens, and there are many people who have faced the consequences of the same.
A particular section also said that since IMA is trying to make a big issue out of the film’s theme, it is only proving that the makers are not wrong and the reality is coming out in front of everyone.
Some made fun of the letter, saying that even if Ashwini Vaishnaw watches the film, it is a theatrical release and the CBFC will take a final call on what happens.
They additionally questioned the IMA’s actions, asking why they did not do the same when Joseph was released in 2018, followed by two more remakes. They recalled the time when films like Gabbar Is Back also addressed the case, and no action was taken.
On the other hand, a few supported IMA’s actions, saying that doctors and healthcare professionals save people’s lives at any hour of the day and any disrespect towards them should not be accepted in any manner.
Some others even stated that the movie will stop any corrupt practices happening in the field, and so IMA should support the film instead of going against it.
A few netizens also expressed their doubts about the controversy, asking whether it was a publicity stunt created by the makers themselves since the buzz for the film is very low for now. Gunmaaster G9 is releasing a week after Suryaa, and since both have been produced by Deepak Mukut, netizens claimed that the producer is trying to save the first one from sinking at the box office.
As of now, the makers and the Minister for Information and Broadcasting have not responded to the controversy and the letter. It remains to be seen how things are going to be handled in the upcoming days.
#SURYAA is based on how a few doctors indulge in financial malpractice & professional misconduct.
Corruption in hospitals & medical field is a FACT. All of us have faced some insensitive & greedy doctors at some point.
But I have no issues if IMA or other medical councils want to watch this #SunnyDeol movie before the release… Let them watch. Eventually, only CBFC has the authority to pass the movie with appropriate certificate.
If IMA or any other council raise a ruckus, it will only validate the content of the film.
Interestingly, #DeepakMukut has two back-to-back released as a producer. SURYAA on November 20…. #GunmaasterG9 on November 27 🍿

Just saw this video in which he urged govt. To ban SUNNY DEOL’S #Suryaa movie, according to him Doctor is the most honest community in the world.
So listen now :
– You people have nexus with pharmaceutical companies. Why did you go on strike when the government asked you to prescribe generic medicines?
– The world’s most greedy com is a doctor. Commission has been fixed on every thing.
– You get new tests done every seventh day unnecessarily and put pressure to get the tests done from the same diagnostic centre.
– In private hospitals, you deliberately extort money from poor people in the name of different fees.
– You indirectly pressure poor people to get themselves treated in your private clinics.
If everyone start exposing you, all the doctors will shit in their pants.
So ab jo jo skta hai vo ukhad lo tum log….

How dare filmmakers like sunny deol present physical assaults on doctors, nursing staff as "heroic" ?
The movie "SURYAA Ant Se Aarambh Tak" shamelessly generalizes corruption to tarnish the reputation of countless honest, dedicated doctors.
Glorifying attacks on medical professionals normalizes violence, shatters the vital doctor–patient trust, and demoralizes medical students.
IMA has demanded an urgent intervention from I&B Minister Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw. Enforce immediate corrective measures from the filmmakers or BAN this dangerous film now!— Dr.Dhruv Chauhan (@DrDhruvchauhan) October 22, 2026
