Coming to the controversy, it is related to dialogue in the series about ‘Psychotherapist’. Dr Malavika has found it offensive and derogatory in nature. As a series has a wide reach, such representation could lead to stereotyping and undermining of the profession, is their grievance.

A notice has been sent by Dr Malavika’s lawyer expressing the concerns. They want the dialogue to be removed and the makers to issue an unconditional apology publicly. They have been given fifteen days time. If the demand is not met, legal action would be taken asserts the lawyer.

The makers of Aarya however, are clear with their defence. They point out that things have to be seen within the context of the story. They are sure that the petition is legally untenable, and termed the statements incorrect.

Ram Madhvani directs Aarya. The series has won praise from the critics and love of the fans for the actress on the comeback, Sushmita Sen. It is streaming on Disney Plus Hotstar.
