kangana-ranaut-emergency

Kangana is always in news for one controversy or another. She has been the talk of the town for her next project Emergency. It is based on the life of Indira Gandhi and her political career. The biographical-political drama is co-produced and directed by Kangana herself and we would also see her in the lead role of Indira Gandhi. The film also stars Anupam Kher, Shreyas Talpade, Mahima Chaudhry, Milind Soman and Satish Kaushik in significant roles.

Netizens have shed light on the film’s trailer that paints a bad image of the Sikh community. This minority community has always been a target of Kangana Ranaut. She had made some bizarre comments about them during the Farmer’s Strike. Her infamous airport incident is quite recent, she was slapped by a Sikh female security personnel for making horrible comments about Sikh women who were protesting for their rights. Kangana has time and again brought the Khalistani claims to alienate the community. With this film it seems as if she has taken the matter a bit too personally!

In the film Sikh characters can be seen associated with the Khalistani cause and creating mass terror. The representations of the Sikh people as terrorists seems a part of a personal vendetta. But the worst thing is that it might go to justify the 1984 Sikh riots. Depiction of a troubled history calls for some sensitivity. If a filmmaker does the work based on their personal biases it is bound to hurt sentiments. Kangana can only hope that the backlash does not become too volatile as it might even affect the film’s release on 6 September. Stay tuned for more updates!
