At the very beginning, we all assumed Indians’ love for Nolan and his craft, but ‘wow.’ Yesterday, we had the global release of the new Nolan film, and the box office reports are coming in.
When Barbie announced its release date, and the world was expecting a clash, Barbie was assumed to be the underdog. However, Gerwig, along with her advertising team, turned the tables upside down. Oppenheimer became the underdog, and that is extremely prominent in the stats.
On the global stage, it was indeed the show of Barbie, but Oppenheimer also sets up a very strong statement. Not only was it flooded with critical appreciation and fan support, but it is also performing well in terms of numbers.
In the global market, Oppenheimer has collected around $10.5M in Thursday previews. The film had been projected to open to $49M.
When it comes to the Indian market, the Nolan love reflects. Oppenheimer has had a grand opening of 13.5Cr. It also stands as the biggest opening by any Hollywood movie in India.
Oppenheimer, with a phenomenal cast including names such as Cillian Murphy, RDJ, Matt Damon, Emily Blunt, and more, is doing well enough in the global market despite a disappointing advertisement strategy.
Obviously, on a global level, it won’t be a Barbie-level sensation, but it is doing considerable numbers. A $100M film projecting a $50M opening week is commendable. With the gloomy vibe of Oppenheimer, it is at least having a colorful run at the box office.
