It is a famous practice in the Telugu states, particularly in Hyderabad to have selected theatrical re-releases on the occasion of Mahasivaratri. The same thing is happening this year again as 11 Telugu super hit films are having re-releases tonight.
The list of films includes Salaar, Dasara, Karthikeya 2, Hanuman, Rebel, DJ Tillu, MAD, Adhurs, Waltair Veerayya, Veera Simha Reddy, Desamuduru, Dhamaka, and Venky. Barring Rebel, every film on the list is a super hit at the box office.
Usually, on Sivaratri night, enthusiastic Telugu people stay awake all night, as a token of worship for Lord Shiva. This is why so many hit films are re-released every Sivaratri, in order to entertain those who observe the festival.
With the re-release culture already catching up in Tollywood, there is a wide range of options for the Telugu folk this year, ranging from action potboilers to comedy capers. All these films will have screenings in Hyderabad tonight.
